Your Designer — Teri Berry
“Do You Have a Mouse in Your Pocket . . . or What?”
A client once asked me this after listening to my recorded phone message which started with “We can’t come to the phone right now . . .”
Okay, so I’ve changed my recorded message long ago, and I know I keep referring to “we” and “us” throughout this website, but I’ll confess to anyone who clicks on the ABOUT menu that this is a one-person shop and my name is Teri Berry.
In 1990, I started my business, It’s A Berry Design, in Orange, California, as a desktop publisher and print broker. It was a time when computers were just emerging as a useful tool and traditional typesetting was on its way out. And it was an exciting time to begin a new business in a brand-new industry for creatives and I loved being a part of it. Every facet of the industry has evolved since then, and today the graphic design and printing industry is completely different from what it was decades ago, bringing on new challenges.
Prior to opening my own business, and in the late 1980s, I worked for a printer as a trainee learning manual pre-press. It was there that I learned how a printing press ran, how to develop film in a darkroom, film stripping, plate making, manual paste-up, and other prepress duties. Procedures for printing were certainly much less automated and more complex back then, but this early introduction to the printing process has been extremely helpful throughout my career, and my business has made a smooth transition to what has become a predominantly digital process for both graphic design and printing. This training has also positioned me well for offering extensive prepress services, which I have provided for many years.
In 2008, I moved to the high desert and have converted to an internet-only based business of graphic design, digital prepress and print broker.
I respond quickly to emails, generally within two hours, but feel free to contact me via phone if you prefer to speak in person. I try to make the creative process as comfortable as possible with my clients and I look forward to working with you soon!
